A vintage Dala horse circa 70s, hand painted with acrylic paint and sealed with a high gloss finish. This is a unique design featuring the Swedish flag as a motif.
Original sticker residue on the underside, this was found with two other 70s Nils Olsen and GA Olsen horses so could be of the same era (see latter photos).
Each horse is unique.
**please note this listing is for one horse as per the first photo and description.
about-
A Dala horse (Dalahäst) is a traditional, hand-carved and painted wooden horse from Sweden's Dalarna region, symbolising strength and good luck, and Swedish culture, popular as a toy, souvenir, and national emblem, often recognised by its vibrant red colour and folk art patterns.
Decorated toy horses were being sold from some of the villages of Mora as early as the first half of the 19th century. The Dala horse has become the symbol of Dalarna, as well as of Sweden in general. Modern versions are mass produced and not hand painted with the value of the original vintage pieces increasing in recent years with an appreciation for folk and hand crafted products returning.
