'Rapture' - Framed Print 1972 Pirelli Calendar Biba
A lovely soft focus fashion photography image by French photographer Sarah Moon for Pirelli.
The 1972 Pirelli Calendar was the first to be photographed by a woman and marked a romantic shift in tone and style from the ouvert pin-up style that had gone before.
Her elegant, ethereal pictures redefined fashion photography in the 70s and she came to fame after originally working for Cacharel.
Mounted is pale gold metallic frame which compliments the warm tones featured in the photography.
Similar images were featured in Beauty in Vogue, Summer 1972 and this is the signature look of Sara Moon whom also produced famous advertising work for BIBA to advertise their make up range which almost as likely to have been used for the Pirelli series.
The make-up artist Barbara Daly created a deeply romantic and nostalgic look for the models – with kohl-rimmed eyes and rosebud lips – that brought to mind fin de siècle erotic photography
Though it was not universally praised at the time, the edition now ranks among the most prized for its artistry and originality.
This a large format almost A2 sized piece.
measures-
W59cm x H43cm
D2cm
notes-
very good vintage condition for age
light scratches and light dents to frame - as expected with this type of pressed and ben metal
ready to hang with original backer and string
