In 1941 during World War II production ceased, under the Concentration of Industries Act and the factory used by government to store shell cases.

In 1946 Charles Griffiths Bowers re-started the business and manufacturing when was allowed. Production commenced with 'once fired' white cups and in 1947 the range was extended to include ornamental ware and decorative items. They were better known for 'cottage ware' and this piece is a rare example of a modernist design.
